The Isle of Skye has mountains, lochs, shores, cliffs, bridges and towns, and the best of all its full of stories and folklore. You might find the combination of light with the landscape, and stories can leave you totally speechless. Here’s a small selection of what Skye can offer:
Sligachan
If you’re a mountain lover, Sligachan is the place to elope in the whole Skye. Starting from the old bridge, you have a jaw-dropping view of the Cuillin mountains. But have in mind that it’s the wettest area of the whole island.
If you’re up for a hike, you can take the route along Loch Sligachan and breathe the views (4-5 hours). Or if the mountain calls you, hike Glamaig and the northern Red Hills (6-8 hours), and enjoy a panorama of dramatic landscapes and blue seas. You can get more walking ideas here
The Fairy Pools
The Fairy Pools are magical, it is said they attracted selkies, mythological creatures disguised as large seals that will come through the beach of Glen Brittle where they will shed their skins and change to human form to bathe in the pools under the full moon. The water is crystal clear, icy, from the foot of the Cuillin mountains, forming waterfalls and turquoise lagoons. At the top, you’ll get the background of Sgurr an Fheadain, a very severe hike for the experienced, but breathtaking photo background.
If you’re the kind of person that seeks places for wild swimming, get into the pools, but remember they might give you brain freeze!
NOTE: The Fairy Pools can get busy, but there’s an option to get to the other Cuillin corries that are equally magical and much less visited
Talisker Beach
If you fancy sand and beach, Talisker beach is the choice. A stunning black sand beach with dramatic views, a cliff to the right with an impressive waterfall, and a stack and chilly water rock pools to the left. During strong south-westerly winds, the waterfall can blow back up!
Nearby is the famous Talisker whisky, so you might bring a dram with you to warm up if you decide to get into the icy rock pools
The Quiraing
The Quiranq might be the most photogenic spot of the whole island, or together with The Storr. The view can give you the best backdrop of the Trotternish peninsula, the mort northerly region of Skye. It’s fair to say that it contains the most striking landscapes in Scotland. There’s not enought words to to describe it, instead, fall in love with the breath taking views.

The Storr
Legend said that a giant lived in the Trotternish Ridge and when he was buried, his thumb was left over the ground, creating the famous landscape.
The Old Man of Storr overlooks the Sound of Raasay. A dramatic rocky landscape with contrasting areas, between the rocky formation and the sea. A perfect backdrop and enjoyiful hike.
